I am not a club member as i have three different makes of bikes and a car and it would be too costly to join them all but recently i contacted the club regarding my 1960 Crusader Sport. I fully expected to pay for the information but was pleasantly surprised when a Mr Graham Scarth contacted me and told me my bike still had it's original frame and engine numbers and was delivered to Jordens of Hull in October 1960, plus a few more details.
I would like to thank Mr Scarth publicly through this site to show my appreciation, thankyou once again.

hi geoffro,mr scarth happens to be the chairman of the royal enfield owners club and i think that the subscription to the club is probably one of the cheapest national clubs around at £15 a year unlike most of the other clubs that are over £20 or more its worth it just for the bi monthly mag which costs as much to produce and mail as the subscription ,i wonder if the larger clubs would have been as helpful to a non member i doubt it,i run a branch of the reoc and am inundated by non members who want advice etc ,i always help out if i can ,we are a friendly bunch or at least some of us all the best paul.

Hi Jeffro. I can't tell you anything about your bike but I can tell you a bit about Jordons of Hull (spelt with two 'o's). At the time your bike was delivered they were located in Story Street in the city centre in a large multi-floor post war building. They were BMC dealers (Austin and Morris) and the bike showroom was on the top floor. Like most other dealers at that time they carried other makes of bikes such as BSA, Triumph, Royal Enfield, AJS etc etc. Along with Miles Ltd (now Miles Kingsport), Jordons were the main bike dealers in the Hull. Around 1970ish they dropped the motorcycle dealership altogether and concentrated on cars, subsequently moving to Witham were they still exist as 'Jordons of Witham' and are the city's main Fiat dealership. The old building in Story Street stood empty for decades but, as part of the city's redevelopment, has at last been knocked down and in its place stands a new gleaming NHS Walk-In centre.

Riggers, I'm not at all sure about your "Jordons" spelling. Certainly it's Jordans of Witham now. I was in there inumerable times in the 60s and always thought it was Jordans. Someone will put us right however as the firm fitted rather nice metal badges to the bikes they supplied - usually fitted to the top of the rear light fitting. I remember they had a huge commerial lift for moving bikes and cars to the upper floors.

Talking of Hull, does anyone remember Temple Street? There was a bike breaker there who kept all our bikes going with second hand parts at cheap prices. I suppose he must have broken up some really good stuff in his time but then it was just old bikes. It was a real Alladin's cave and you often had to search through boxes of stuff for the part you wanted. His son carried the buisness on at Springbank after the area saw cleared for redevelopment. Can anyone remember his name?

Hey Pete - You're right about the spelling and I stand corrected! Temple Supplies was a legend in Hull and I remember it well. We used to call the place 'Jack's Yard' - the owner being Jack Richie. He had two sons who also worked in the business Pat and Mike, and I believe only Mike survives (although I'm not 100% on that). I well remember the huge pile of Honda 50 leg shields wondering who on earth was going to buy them. And the electric light in the shed which dripped water when it rained! I wonder how many Nortons, Triumphs, Velocettes and Matchlesses (et al) have met their doom in that yard with their owners walking away with £10 in their back pockets thinking they've done a good deal!
