Simon, out here we call that "giving it a bit of stick", probably something relating to horse racing many years ago

----------just a thought but are the internal ratios the same for the 350 as they are for the 500 ?? Maybe there isn't a "gap" within the 350 'boxes ??

Alan there is the "gap" with the 350 and, imho, while the ratios aren't ideal,it's something that I've learned to accept without it being a major problem.

Yes, same ratios on the 350 but as the engine has less power, the problem is worse than on the 500. You get pushed into 3rd sooner on hills.

The gap is actually larger in terms of mph on the 500, because [in standard form] the 500 has a 17t gearbox sprocket, while the 350 has a 16t. Power for power, the engines cope with it in a simillar manner. Some Redditch gearboxes have less of a gap, as various internal ratios were offered, we had one such gearbox on one machine and there was no great gap between 3rd and 4th [sidecar ratios maybe?]. One thing's for sure, when I tuned my 350, I fitted a 17t gearbox sprocket after contemplating an 18t one and I'm glad I chose 17t, as the jump is as big as it can handle, even with the extra power!
