Have you by chance fitted the sprag the wrong way round? This will then be turning in the wrong direction with respect to the "teeth" and will be permanently engaged on a running motor. Not sure if this is possible as my sprag has never caused a problem but I think I read somewhere whilst fitting make sure the direction is correct. Just a thought.

Since I fitted the green TCI from Watsonian Squire last summer the bike hasn't kicked back once and the new sprag that my mechanic friend fitted is perfect. Every time that I read of sprag problems on this forum and people saying that they are going to remove the E start I think why oh why oh why dont they just get the green TCI from WS. An Electra with no E start has significantly reduced value. Yes the solonoids fail to (mine did after 5 years) but they are a tenner off eBay and take 10 minutes to fit!

John N no the starter was working perfectly and was extensively tested following the fitting of the new sprag.

Stu i fitted our hosts upgraded TCI before the original sprag disintegrated and our hosts timing adjustment woodruff key was fitted at the same time as the second sprag.

What exactly are the symptoms of a goosed solenoid please?

Martin,
If your starter is spinning your solonoid is working, but just for kicks and giggles get a piece of insulated wire and bridge across the 2 heavy terminals ontop of the solonoid or if you can get at it a screwdriver will do. Just make sure the bike is in neutral. This method is bypassing the solonoid completely. If the starter spins it is as I said before
