Does anyone know whether there is a relay in the starter circuit? The reason i ask is i have replaced the sprag clutch and solenoid but when i press the starter button all i get is the starter motor whirring but it doesn't turn the engine over?

The Sprag is a one way coupling that disconnects when the engine rpm exceeds the cranking speed of the starter motor, so kick backs seem to account for most failures. I don't know if there are significant mechanical changes, but the EFI has a much more sophisticated system controlling ignition and fuel supply and this seems to prevent back firing. My bike has covered 5,500km so far and still 15 months to go on the warranty, so I keep my fingers crossed. I use the kick start about half the time and no kick backs there either.
Covered 17,000 on my Yamaha 250 scooter, starter was fine, although the battery died just short of 3 years and no kick start or jump start possible. Now changed to a new Piaggio X10 (330cc) Fantstic - 34ps, 135km/h possible. Twin front disc brakes, ABS, connected front and rear brakes, anti wheel spin device and on board computer, but only the Enfield feels like a real bike. Cheers TrevorCH
