After posting a question about my 2004 Bullet 500cc stuttering at 70mph, I received some very useful comments and will be acting upon them, particularly sorting the main jet on the Hitchcocks-supplied 30mm Mark 1 concentric. However, a couple of people suggested 70mph or more was pushing the envelope too far and I could chop the top off the piston, or that 70mph was really too much for the bike. Once I get the main jet sorted, I want to push along at a reasonable lick, and be confident it can take high revs but also want to be sure I am not going to cause serious damage by expecting too much. The bike has a free-flowing exhaust and four speed right hand shift. No other mods of any significance. It has about 1500 miles on the clock. So the key question really is - "What is the top, and sustained speed I reasonably expect a four speed classic with open exhaust and 30mm carb to achieve without causing damage?"
