-----------Bloomin'ek!!!!, Fake spark plugs---who'd have thought it ??? Cheers Dennis---thanks for bringing this to our attention, and thanks to the others for the various links. Thinking about it ----there's a fair bit of engineering required to mass produce a spark plug so just WHO is actually doing it ?? I'm off to check my plugs right now.

Alan,
Nothing is beyond the Chinese to produce fakes, just think about it, would you buy a spark plug with a Chinese label on it? No harder for them to stick NGK on it that it is to put any label on it. Remember the fact that 40 or 80 percent( I forget exactly) of all bearings in India are fake as well, they are reputed to spend more on the packaging than the bearing and we wonder why Indian stuff is rubbish. Probably not the Indians fault, it is the bloody Chinese dumping fakes into India

I have done some more research into these fake plugs and it appears they do not match the original heat specification, all the plugs are made the same just with different numbers stamped on. --------- I looks like I have been lucky to get away with no engine damage, they can cause overheating leading to pistons and exhaust valves melting amongst other things.

Over the last few years there have been a number of Enfield owners posting in here re spark plug problems (including new ones) - wonder if some of it could be due to these fakes?

Looking at the NGK website it's quite possible that they themselves have a manufacturing factory in China.

Interesting, I know the Chinese factories can and do make fakes of anything and everything, watched a very interesting documentary on the fakes industry.
Just checked the plug I got from our hosts and it fits the criteria in the linked article, (I've always gotten plugs from either halfords or a parts specialist when ordering service spares, strangely I wouldn't consider getting something like this at an autojumble), that said, I know fakes of things can make their way into mainstream shops too, (fake vodka etc around xmas time, been on the news past 2 years).
Anyhow, just checked the BR7HS I removed from the bike, was ok when bought then lost spark, suspected coil, swapped plug, got spark.
It looks well made and legitimate but had no number on the hex and is stamped, made in France! Do ngk have a French manufacturing plant?
