An obscure one which did give similar symptoms as described (admittedly not on an Enfield) ..... something in the distributer came loose or broke with the result of the timing going AWOL.

All right I'll play. I'd say you pulled to the unscheduled halt and cussed the fickle gods of two wheeled machines. Checked that there was indeed still fuel in the tank and then decided to check the points only to discover that they had rattled loose and you had no points gap. A quick adjustment with the Swiss army knife or the reversible screw driver out of some long dead Japanese car tool kit and you were once again on your way. I like happy endings. S:)

Ok so the bracket or fixing holding the tea caddy has broken/fallen off....... The caddy drops and kinks the rubber intake to the carb. Too rich then no air at all, fuel explodes in the hot exhaust then nothing. You tied the caddy back up using the wire as a tempory get you home.

You pulled out your boyscout knot chart from the toolkit, disentangled your towrope from around your header pipe and re-tied it back on the drifter with a propper reef knot. :)

My second guess is, no power at the coil/points (snapped wire inside the insulation?).so you ran a wire from bat' + to to the + side of the coil, or - side of coil to points + and restarted. :)

Hi guys------This is almost like a game of minesweeper....Technically it's still Bank Holiday Monday so here is the final update, then I'll give the answer tomorrow evening ( Plus I've had a 2nd breakdown---but this time I managed to limp home.---one of the rear shocks developed an intermittent seizure---felt like the back wheel had an occasional splash of oil on it...Scary stuff !!! )}------ Again, one of you is VERY CLOSE INDEED !!!!!!Give it one more shot lads, you might just win the 1st prize.

Your 3mm semi automatic fluctuating kerfuffle valve got bunged with carbon strangling the flux capacative boost capabilities and holding the exhaust gasses too long in the reflux module, removal of said valve cured this but meant riding home in 4th at 50mph which required a running start and gungho leap and kick start at each junction, the fix will require a thorough reaming and overbore of the valve to 3.5mm.

Ha, that'll teach you to fit non OEM performance upgrades!
