So tape up the loose ferrule. Get yourself some "self-amalgamating tape" It's ideal for this job and useful to have in the toolbox. It conforms to differant diameters a lot better than PVC tape and when "stretched" as it's wrapped on it sets hard (but not too hard)

Makes sense to me. Within a week of getting my first Bullet, my ferrule fell out on the road. It had also jammed the throttle open a couple of times, once during my Swiss registration test. I was very lucky to find it when I went back in the car about an hour later.. The problem was actually because the sheath was the wrong length relative to the inner. I remember filing off a couple of mm at the throttle end. After I changed to an Amal, I could resolve the problem using the inline adjuster. The EFI does not have the problem because it uses a double cable, as a closed loop, rather than just spring return and at the throttle end you get two nice right angle bent tubes instead of the nasty little split ferrule. Sure, all that does make sense.

The cure could simply be to adjust the cable to take out any excessive 'play', 'slack'. Such ferrules are a regular fitting and, in themselves, not a problem. The problem would seem to be cable (mis)adjustment. (I almost wrote 'simples' - but thought better of it!) Cheers.
