On my 06 Electra X I get 105mpg on a good run, standard carb and settings, standard air filter etc. Steveg, as far as I know the standard Electra X had no trip meter therefore if yours is a non standard speedo then thats probably the reason for the inaccuracy you are getting.

Yep its a XS model which has a rev counter aswell ( which u don' t need on a bullet)

trip is up to 180 miles and looks to be half a tank left of juice left , therefore recon tank is good for a real 250 ish miles

BT, your calcs are similar to mine.
I calculate all my vehicles to keep an average of fuel consumption, primarily to see if theres a big variation and look at why.
I start with a fill to brimming, zero the trip and try to cover at least 120+ miles, (bike), 350 miles, (car), before refill to get a good average over a range of driving types.
I refill to brimming again, (using the same station where possible to rule out variances in fuel quality), then divide the litres by 4.54 to give gallons, (UK), then take the distance in miles from the trip and divide that by the gallons from the previous equation.

--------anyway, with my Classic 500 4-speed and estimating 3 gallons for 240 miles (very approx.) then I'm getting the same ball park figures ie in the region of 70 to 80 mpg on most of this years club rides ( As mentioned in another thread that's over a 1,000 miles this year). It might be interesting to use a more accurate distance measuring device---maybe get a friend with a chronometer-fitted bike to come along and use an auxiliary fuel holder--say for 1 pint, plumbed into the carb. "Uncle" Jim Reynolds did a similar thing a few years back with an Electra X I seem to recall as he used most of the A49 and surrounding area---- which is where I tend to do most of my local runs. To put the MPG into another scenario----I could ride from my home here in TELFORD, Shropshire to my Mother's house in READING, BERKS at normal Bullet operational speeds etc.AND back again (if I factor in the reserve amount as well.). I did do that same journey on a Bullet 65 a few years back but major diversions around the S. Oxford area and pouring rain helped to scupper any attempt at record taking.

Did two runs this weekend just gone covering a total 540km's. Both actually averaged the same in mileage and mpg terms. 79+ on Saturday and 81+ on Sunday. And I filled with normal Unleaded too and it has made no difference on the running. Since I finally seem to have got the running issues sorted (re-jetting and Universal Silencer), the bike seems to be flying. Much improved on the top end overall and very responsive from the mid-range up. It's really a completely different beast now? And with the higher, braced bars fitted, much lighterr and quicker to steer, really suits me, a Street Scrambler type look now, and really chuckable out in the country lanes and sounds awesome too. Yes, I'm pleased with how this has ended up now, a much more enjoyable bike to ride with these subtle mods. Dare say I could improve my fuel economy further with a bit more "refinement" in my riding technique nio doubt? Happy Days.....

Hi guys------- BULLET TRAIN, Good news, at last !! You've got it going something like it should be. I also have my No.1 Bullet in a similar mode ie Braced H'bars etc and they really do give a feeling of more control, don't they ?? (Currently converting to 1950's Army Despatch Rider (Desert)look. You're dead right about riding technique. It plays a very major part when it comes to fuel economy AND longevity of parts etc. GENTLY on the throttle, CARESS the clutch, EASY up the rev. range, NIBBLE at the fuel, FIRM yet FAIR with auld Albion down below---hang on!!, I'm getting quite exited here--- best go for a ride on a dark bike along a quiet road, methinks. Of course there is one final, ultimate economy device that I think the majority of us on this Forum could use--I know I do and it's saved me a pretty penny or two recently---------------------------- YOUR BUS PASS !!--Now, here's a thought(Seriously)------------- in principle, would you agree to relinquishing your Bus Pass for a Fuel Token / Allowance, eg say 5 gallons per callendar month ???? Just a thought.

Alas dear Alan, I must be in the minority here. It'll be nearly 20 year afore I see a FREE bus pass??
