All, hope you had a merry Christmas, thought I would let you know that I fitted the gearbox strengthener part no 90221 for the 4 speed box today, and it does exactly as it says on the tin, the outer gearbox casing no longer flexes and on tickover there is no drop in revs when the clutch is pulled and 1st gear is selected, can't wait to road test it but that will have to wait until my back is better, have a good year and as usual, just enjoy the ride.....

Should be no trouble in traffic as there is no interference and therefore no heat build up.

Simon, the strengthener is a part of a fix but it isn't a total fix, what also needs doing is cutting/ grinding about 3mm out of the clutch perch and a straight clutch lever without the step in it will usually give you enough cable travel to have a fraction of clearance on the push rod adjuster thus preventing the pushrod from spinning and getting hot. Enfield life can be good with a working clutch but so many don't work very well

I will admit Norm there is still room for improvement. At the moment I have total clearance and there is no heavy traffic degradation but if I apply the throttle too heavily in third or top the clutch will slip. I've got Doherty copies as levers which I presume give more travel than the originals. I also made my cables to a length that put the adjustment screw where there was the least lost motion. I'm thinking that a heavier set of springs might be the go as the bike is putting out a decent amount more power than it would in standard trim. It would be good to have a bit more adjustment either side of optimum so I'd like to see a picture of your perch mod though as it does sounds interesting.
