I tried to find a norton for sale. Found one Norton Model 50 350c £ 6,999. So MadMike your smugness does in fact come at quite a cost! One can either rebore the RE for, what hundred quid? or buy a Norton for an extra £5850 over the vaue of the Enfield.

Well, I'm glad i posted that I must say, not sure I'll bother again.
The big end and the little end are spot on, no play at all where thier
should be none. The milage is imperial, I changed the speedo at the
at begining. The bike is used every day, inc winters, and has a carpet tile
in the garage which it sits on over night, which is also clean (anyboby
welcome to check that to), does not leak oil. Oil changed every 2000 mile
interval, inside engine clean as a whistle.
He's a he because his name is Harry, although I'm gay, the he is irelavant
to that fact. I have owned shes in the past, just depends how they come
over to me during ownership.
I think the milage is good as many here have said had many a tale of wo
at conciderably at lot less milage than this.

Right, make of that lot what you will, i'm sure you gonna. ; )

Mike,
You obviously don't get it, These Enfields are a pile of crap but that is the way it is and we just live with it. No point in running around shaking your head in disbelief we know how bad they are

Hi Jon64, Well your post was not asking for any help or advice and was just a statement, -------- this type of post on a message board always brings out comments from others and why not?. ------------ Incidentally oil changes at 2000 miles is on the upper limit especially if the bike is used in all weathers and short runs. ------ Thanks for the offer but can I decline inspecting your carpet. ---------- Nothing too serious here, don't get up tight about it, post some more treat it lightheartedly and enjoy a bit of banter, incidentally personally I couldn't care less about your sexuality.

Hi Dennis,

Thanksfor you reply. To be honest I'm worked up, just amazed that,
bar a few, the comments were so negative. If people really think these
bikes are so bad, I dont know why there not all riding Honda's or Hinkley
Triumphs. I've had three Enfields and none have ever let me down.
I'm a motorcycle mechanic of some 27 yrs and know what I'm doing.
I don't need to ask questions on here, hence my, I thought freindly statement.
I only mention my sexuality as it is always assumed people are "straight" and
I have no problem with whatever people think of it.
Apologise for perhaps coming over a little pissed, but the comments
took me back. Perhaps i'm not built for forums.

Regards, Jon

As the guy who first queried you referring to your bike as 'he' I only did so because I've never come across it before. Like ships I've always found bikes and (to some extent) cars always taking on the female gender. My reg. ends in KTL and so her name is Kateel. Can't imagine anyone really gives a f+@k but for what it's worth I'm also gay and about to start taking pills for arthritis that could make me sterile!--- the final irony!!!

Incidentally Jon64 GAY on this site doesn't mean 'Good As You' it means 'Gearboxes Aren't Youngforever'.

Hi Jon,
If the big end feels ok, leave it alone. No-one can predict how long it may or may not last, but it might have another 20+ thousand miles or more in it, when it does wear out it won't be hard or expensive to fix. Give IT a rebore [never cared too much for he / she / names with machines] if required, then carry on enjoying it, otherwise you will throw good parts and money away and end up building a 'new' engine. Run it until it dies or goes 'Bang' and then sort it for far less than if it were a Jap or true 'Brit' bike. Paul.

I have nothing to add to the mechanical mutterings side of this merely wanted to throw in my take on the whole she/he thing.
Every car or bike I've ever owned is an 'it' they are sometimes referred to by a selection of more profane utterings. But that's generally when tackling some swear worthy work on them.
I've never quite got this 'she's business, it just feels wrong trying to say it.
You seem happy with your bullet and seem to know what you're doing, it's nice to know there are some that get the miles put on them, I don't ride any of mine as much as I should.

I often refer to my Inter as SOB, "Son of a Bitch" when it doesn't want to behave properly
