Following a minor accident, I recently fitted a new Phillips Motovision bulb and the the associated Neolite lens. The light is great, but the alternator only seems to keep up with the current drain when I'm running at about 50mph or more. It seems to me that I have four options:
1. return to the old-type bulb, but sacrifice the nice light level of the Phillips;
2. fit the high output alternator available from our hosts - but this is a costly option;
3. fit a Boyer Powerbox, which may increase the effective output from the alternator - but I don't know if this is true, and it is still reasonably expensive;
4. fit a LED stop/tail bulb, which will reduce the demand when the headlight is on - a relatively chap option, but again I don't know if it will work.

Any suggestions, advice or experience would be gratefully received.

Ive fitted the same Neolite headlight unit and motovision Bulb on my Bullet excellent headlight at night best mod I have done I in my oppinion. My bullet is the A/C direct feed to the headlamp so has no effect on charging or discharge although it tends to go dull when ticking over. Not sure what age or type your bike is but you could use a high output alternator which is available from Hitchcocks.

Sorry this bit did not cut & paste at same time......

Yes it costs more but I think its well worth it for the improved Visual safety too keep it. What age and Type of Bullet have you got and is it electric start or not as this will tell us whether its a A/c D/c type or normal.

Hi i run a SPARX 180watt alt on a 94 500, no problems with chargeing or lights runs a 60/55 h4 headlight .
original alt on bike was queried at indian factory their reply was 75-90 watts output depending on who winds the coils. factory headlamp ran a 36/36watt bulb after a few klms ammerer is back in centre position. very happy with sparx unit.
