My 350 classic has just been rebuilt with a goldie silencer. It has a 26mm Amal breathing through a conical filter. Perhaps surprisingly, even with the needle on the top notch, it is running rich with the plug getting sooty(not oily). I can tinker with the jetting some more, but I was thinking of taking the baffle out of the Goldie, and perhaps refitting a bellmouth (though I don't think that makes much difference).
I'll experiment, but how much difference does anyone think the baffle will make in terms of mixture and noise?

Hello John,
My bike had a conical S&B filter with a Hitchcocks 50's style exhaust/silencer. When I put a more restrictive silencer on and added a tea caddy style air filter I found that it the mixture was far too rich (thanks for everyone's help here). My Amal carb was fitted with a 200 jet. I ordered a 180 so I hope this will help. I'll let you know.
regards,
Alan
