On the new Electra EFI forks,(2011) does it make sense to remove the complete fork leg from the triple clamps so that you can upend them to change the oil. Removal of the slider, stud etc seems to be more of a hassle. The Indian manual doesn't seem to suggest the easiest method, only complete fork dis-assembly.
What is the method of retaining the fork tube in the cast top housing ? is it located in a taper or threaded or what ?

Thanks if you can save me some hassle.

Hi Clive. Maybe if the bottom nut was loosened, but not completely removed, the oil might drain passed it and you could also try tapping it up slightly so the stud and damper assembly moves up inside a touch and provides some clearance and leakage for the oil to drain?...just a guess though.

The Electra (G5) efi forks drain from the bottom, just unscrew & remove the caps. You might have to use an impact wrench (spanner & hammer...) if it just turns and wont let go. Fill from the big silver screws at the top, use straightened out wire hanger for dipstick. You'll find a quantity of grey sludge drains out - goodness knows what they put in there in the factory.
I changed mine recently and it realy did improve handling - as does a set of Hagons on the rear.
The Classic (C5) has different forks and a different method I believe.
