Jfw, I have just removed the front wheel because the axle nut on the brake side keeps working loose, the reason being is because there is a gap between the nut and the fork leg, when I get the chance I will be looking for a suitable washer to fill the gap so that the nut has nowhere to undo to there fore hopefully staying tight, I was going to make my own washer from a 2 pence peice which is about the right width but I don't have a drill bit big enough to drill the centre hole.
Anyway I would recommend do the nut up tight and fit a washer/spacer if necessary.
