I like to keep it old school and have been looking at twin shock trials bikes but they are expensive. I'v seen an early air cooled mono shock come up for sale down my road. A Fantic 241 (212cc 2stroke) it's in very original useable condition with lots of paper work and nice goodies. I guess he's open to offers and he talks about part exchange. I have a CB250N Superdream with new MOT to part exchange (Might get £300 - £400 off? with my part exchange what do you think?) Matt I am slightly confused, some would say that is normal, but if you are after a twin shock trials bike is it because you intend to take up trials riding? The Fantic, if in good condition, is a good bike BUT it may not be competitive against mopdern GasGas etc bikes. If you intend to buy for road use then a trials bike would be as good as useless. tank too small, riding position too cramped etc etc. The list is endless. For road use and the trials look, then an Enfield in appropriate trim would be a good bike to buy or build. IMHO. First you need to define your real needs before you worry about which bike you want. I know a couple of people who ride in twin shock trials, and their bikes are really trick, and frankly so is their riding. HTH.

Mike, I already own a a 500cc Bullet that's great on the road. I also have a 350cc Bullet in trials trim which is great on the byways, trails and green lanes. It's this that has got me wanting to develop my trials ridding skills. The 350cc makes even the most gentle trails technical if you get what I mean! I now want to get a third bike that is lighter, more agile and in general more capable to really start ridding obstacles. I ideally want something that is road registered, that way I will get way more use out of it (and some friends can borrow it to come green lane ridding with me.) Some of the lanes around here are as good as a trials course. So, I am very clear about my needs and am now on to the stage of wondering what bike to get. Thanks for your input anyway mate.

Thanks Alan. I've seen that one actually. I'm looking for something more trials style. Weighing as much a as a fart and a slim as can be. This would be ideal if it were closer and a little bit cheaper:

The Yamaha is a DT175MX; this is not a TRIAL bike, but a TRAIL bike - quite different. I bought one of these brand new in 1978 for just slightly more than HALF its current bid of £1000.......Matt - the Cota looks a usable piece of kit but I'd be surprised if it attracts the advertised price. I actually own a '76 Cota, which I'm pleased to say has cost me just a fraction of that price..

Thanks John. I'm actually looking more at a Bultaco Sherpa now, I'm more keen on the style of the bike as well. It's had no bids on eBay and ends today. On the phone the chap says £800 is his minimum. It looks pretty tidy. ------ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1971-bultaco- ... d80&_uhb=1 ------ There it is. It's had none of the modifications and refurbishment that the Montesa's had though which although not original spec make it a much more functional bike. The Montesa's already got a V5 as well which I would want to obtain independently for the Sherpa. What would you say is a fair offer to make the Montesa chap if I went down that route? I had an early Bultaco Sherpa ( the one with the "radial" type head fins) and ran it on a Daytime MoT---- also got done for speeding on it as well !!-- Over the years have ran a Montessa and CZ etc.... MATT, you seem to be moving towards the competitive machine ??
