Hi every body,
Any one know if the Big End assemblies available on Ebay from India would fit a 1955 Redditch built bullet?

Probably but personally I'd buy British for quality and peace of mind! I know of examples of very poorly made Indian items which simply wouldn't fit. Before you decide, strip the one you've got, the original floating bush usually wears out before the crankpin and can be replaced without having to change anything else. (Also these parts are available from our Hosts so it's a bit cheeky to suggest another source!)

So Stainless let me understand you correctly; You are asking on the message board of a UK (and possibly the worlds largest) Enfield parts supplier if an Enfield part purchased via Ebay from a supplier in India will fit???
Yeah, you go for it mate, it will be perfect. Oh and if it isn't make sure that you phone them to ask for advice or your money back or if a big end assembly from Hitchcocks mail order in the UK will fit!!!

Hi STAINLESS----- I think you get the idea now about how this message board works ?? What we CAN tell you is that our hosts have been in this business for quite some time now and have EARNED their reputation for quality, service and value. Yes, there are other sources for your spares----both here and abroad; you pays your money and takes your chances. Why not save yourself a whole lot of grief and give our hosts a phone call, have a chat---they're all good people--and see what they can do for you ?? OH---don't think my nose is up their "exhaust pipe" or I'm a "corporate lacky"....If I think they are in error anywhere}--- I TELL 'EM SO, UNRESERVEDLY !!!! PS, best wishes with your 1955 Bullet----any chance of a picture or two for the gallery ??

My first dealings with Alan Hitchcock was at Kempton in 1997.........
If I need something quick like NOW when my own stock of bits (gaskets etc) has run out there is a dealer within reasonable distance who gets his stock from - yes you got it - Hitchcocks.

I know this board is on hitchcocks website and I know they trade in parts and they have a great reputation, BUT, lets be honest, it's a fair question, the OP is simply asking, will it fit?
Possibly, I don't know, will it be as rigorously checked and quality controlled, highly unlikely.
Does that mean it will fall apart immediately?, not necessarily!
Will it stand the same level of use and abuse or last as long, possibly not.

Main and first question is, will it fit and work as intended, for that you'll need to take measurements and ask questions, this is where things CAN get tricky with indian parts sellers, most are decent and will take returns and refund for faulty goods etc, HOWEVER, the shipping is in your own hands, bear that in mind.
If it's heavy it won't be cheap.

If you want guaranteed, local, (relatively speaking), good quality components then stick with our host, otherwise take a chance and see. You never know.

Hi Guys-------- nicely said, M1Ks. Putting all else aside it is, as you say a valid question and I think STAINLESS main concern is the fact he has a 1955 Redditch-built machine ie IMPERIAL measurements whilst the E-bay Indian suppliers will undoubtedly be of METRIC sizes. This problem must crop up from time-to-time for our colleagues who run the British built bikes. STAINLESS,--- why not e-mail a selection of those chaps in India and see what transpires ?? Meanwhile talk to MrH's people also----there might be a possible "conversion kit" as it were that you could utilise ?? This might include the con-rod as well as the big-end fit into the flywheels.

With engines it is not worth wasting time with critical engine components. We got a long stroke crank from Mr H and got that running on the weekend, high comp 570, running brilliantly, done about 40 ks on it running down the freeway pulling a 100kph easily,bit over half throttle and a 20 tooth sprocket. Trying the technique of a hard fast run in. Will let you know if it ends in tears. My point here is if you are going to all the work of stripping a motor, put good bits inside the cases so it will last. You can fit junky Indian bits on the outside because they are easy to replace, that is if they fit
