Whenever I rebuild an engine every part is well lubricated with clean engine oil as the assembly progresses and all oilways are filled using a pump type oil can, no part should be assembled "dry".

Hi guys--------just to add my "Professional" support to Dennis C's comments there. I winced when I first read the phrase}----those "dry" components. But then I thought that was meant to be a relative term..ie lubricated but not yet under pressure from the pumps.......(I keep a pair of filters permanently soaked in 20/50, ready for use and fit that "Space-filler" from our hosts.) Yes, it's easy to forget that the timing chest holds a fair quantity of oil at all times and during the re-build will require re-filling, one way or the other. Have you noticed that even when you do take a Grandchild or a dog for a walk, they can develop a leak as well ??...Nice !!!

If you don't have a garden to take bike for a walk, put it on its centre stand (may need a plank of wood so that the rear wheel is clear of the ground), spark plug out, rocker feed loosened and in 4th gear sit behind the bike and rotate the wheel until oil emerges from the rocker feed. It will look like you're playing a harp, but at least the neighbours won't think you've broken down!

many thanks for the good advice.
Nothing is bone dry, but I will make sure it is all getting fresh oil before a startup.

Just to let you know. I filled it up with oil, set the ignition timing, kicked it with the plug out till oil came out of the banjos, then plug in, banjos tight, tickle the carb and IT STARTED FIRST KICK!!!

Just need to refit the alternator stator, ATF in the primary case, a few other little bits and its' a runner!
