SFC1000 - open to many suggestions. Problems 1)Broken speedo cable 2) Engine likes warming up for a minute before launching on the road in minus 15C. Solution, follow the Bullet Owners Manual. Thats it, apart from my current disc run out. BTW, SFC, are you an Enfield Owner or just a Knocker? Anyway, lets not go down that route. Its my third Enfield and it suites me just fine. Cheers TrevorCH
Les H Would have thought weld offset and grinding would have been all the way across, not just on the flat sides, but you might be right. Cheers again.

Trevor,
Is it binding all the way around or just in a particular position. When I fitted the disc conversion on my crossbred I had to very carefully file the caliper mounting lugs on the forks so that they were paralel to the disc. I was using classic forks so this shouldn't be a problem with the Electra type lower legs but might be worth a look.Loosen the caliper mounting bolts slightly and see what happens

Hi Norm,
It scuffs only in a small arc, but from dial gauge, the run out is around half the disc and peaking at 0.5 mm. I took the calliper off, cleaned and replaced, pads almost like new, but to no avail. The wheel rim is troe within the given limits. I leave it to the dealer to fix it next week I hope. Cheers TrevorCH

Trevorch,
I did not want to cause offence and yes I am an Enfield owner, since 2005, but some people on this site seem to think that any problems with their bikes is 'character'.
I would like to see Enfield improve the product and not just keep on re-packaging rubbish.

Hi Trevor,
With 3900ks on the clock I would expect that your pads would be like new, I got over 40,000ks out of my first set.

Hi Trevor...No.... the weld butt-joint on the rim usually shows up on the rim edges,..... not much to see usually across the face of the rim surface.

Thanks for all the useful information Will report back next week after I see the dealer.

BTW SFC1000, I cannot leap to defend Enfield quality, it is what it is, but the new MD wrote a newsletter about a month ago saying quality improvement is his #1 priority. Good customers deserve better, he said. However, for the price, there is no current British designed machine that comes close to the looks and feel we like. I met a Swiss guy a couple of days ago with a 1928 Ariel that he had spend 3 years rebuilding. Required a new welded frame and forks and he had machined all the new nuts and bolts to original. Twenty two hp in 1928 does make you think enfield could have done just a little better today. Cheers TrevorCH
