thanks everyone for the sugestions on why my 350 bullets ammeter does not deflect, and to clarify on some questions, the bike still starts, the kill switch works ok,there is no deflection when lights or indicators are operated, the ammeter shows a positive charge when the bike is running and the revs are increased,at the moment I am checking all the wiring and earth contacts, any further comments are welcome.

Strongest possibilty is that the ammeter has become faulty and something physical inside the movement is stopping negative swings....An easy method to check is to reverse the leads on the back of the ammeter. If the meter is faulty you will get positive readings when you power things up (Lights ignition indicators etc) and with the load reduced to minimal it will not show any charging at all (All syptoms reversed) I am assuming in worked normally at one time.
