My 2011 EFI has covered 3,900km relatively free of problems, except I noticed that the front brake was binding, when I was polishing the rims. With my dial gauge, I measured a run out of 0.5mm. No figure mentioned in the WS manual, but I am sure this is too much. Factory fault or what? Any ideas folks? Cheers TrevorCH

Hello there, Matey----- 0.5mm ( 0.020" approx)---that's a fair bit I would have thought. I have a disc conversion on my 2006 Classic 500 and I also noticed a slight "scuff--scuff---scuff" sound when rotating the wheel whilst cleaning my rims as well. I'll put a clock on it later and see what read-out I get. I've always thought that the disc itself is quite thin and wonder if it's a slight warping ??? Did you ever find out just what your agents workshop did to the de-compressor & why you weren't allowed in to watch ??

According to the manual for the Electra X, same brake disc, max run out should be 0.3mm. Mine too is warped, not sure exactly how much by, but the MOT tester commented on it but it passed and in subsequent years he hasn't mentioned it.

Hi Alan R,

Dealer has removed the auto decomp. Makes kick start a little harder, not used to kicking against compression, but electric start still perfect. In support, he mentioned that Watsons do this to all new EFI's Really?. Main importer asks dealers not to let customers observe this work. Why?
Can feel quite a strong resistance on the brake disc, distinct scuff sound. Also notice slight dent in the rim both sides, but sure I never rode over any curbs, and no one has been on it except myself since delivery. Maybe a sub standard part. Anyway, I booked it in to the dealer for sometime next week. Interested to find out if you get a run out figure. Cheers TrevorCH

Could the dents have been caused by tyre levers when the tyre was fitted?

FRANK-------- normally, in a productive environment, the tyres are fitted-on using a Rolling machine. Not very often the factory has to take a tyre off. Tyre levers are for the owner really.

Tyres are original, concave dents about7mm did are on opposite on both sides of the rim. No idea how they were caused, unless wheel was grpped by some sort of tongs. Maybe a transporter that grips the front wheel? Cheers any way. Trevor CH

Hi Trevor. Could it be the where the rim was welded together? Most Indian rims have very large "kicks" at the joint and sometimes the grinding of the weld is done to excess and it becomes a hollow.

If your bike has covered "3,900km relatively free of problems", what is your idea of a problem?
How Enfield can produce such rubbish, and some customers seem to accept it, is unbelievable.

HI Trevorch, You deff have a warped disc there I would say. I know on Harley's the max amount or runout is .010" and no more. So a new disc would be advisable.
At my place of work, tyres are changed using a four clamp affair that clamps the wheel rim and is worked by compressed air. It has never deformed a rim yet, even my 2001 Enfield wheels.
But other causes or miss use of said machine could I guess course damage.

ps, change your pads too if you change the disc.
