Sorry to hear that it failed first time out, I know of one back when they were new the sprag failed in the showroom infront of a potential customer. I'm not sure what you had over there but out here we had a little black box fitted beside the original TCI unit and this was to delay the start for one rotation. If you don't have this I would revert to the original TCI unit

Not a thing that ian can do about it because you can't adjust the timing on an Electra unless you start playing with the offset woodruff keys and then how many sprags do you go through before you find the right offset key

I would suggest that the electric start not be used when the engine is cold, only when warm or hot, there is less chance of kickback; er, that is if the bike has a kick-start lever of course.
