Starter ssolonoid is shot, sounds like the contacts have stuck themselves together

---------Hell HOGMAN, yes--as NORM says. Basically the solenoid is an electro-magnetic switch which is used to keep the heavy traction current away from the lightweight handlebar push-button. A piece of thick, copper strip is made to contact across two copper studs ( the two terminals with the leads attached to--). Sometimes they can become welded together due to arcing just as contact is about to be made. Some designs of solenoid can be dismantled and repaired ( The trade-trick is to turn the contact strip over onto the other face ). PLEASE DON'T PAY "SILLY" MONEY for a "genuine" Enfield one. There was a similar thread on here not so long ago-----This is the one I use for my 1975 GL1000 Goldwing. Should be ok for the Electra also }-----http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STARTER-RELAY ... 607-------
