I now have the 54 Meteor fitted with an alternator fitted to the crank and all is good, but my problem now is that when I turn it off it continues to run off the alternator. I have the same problem on the 1A Inter but I fitted a coil kill switch to that because I couldn't work out how to get aroung the problem. On my Series 1 Inter, it has the Pazon ignition fitted, and I have always just used a toggle switch on the headlight to power the coil so I have not had this problem, but I would assume the problem would exist if I just switched my battery isolation switch off, it would continue to run on the alternator. Any thoughts?

Ok, I know what I have done, I have diverted all the ignition to go through the ignition switch so that when the switch is off all power is isolated from the battery, which is a much better idea than the original idea of everything staying live all the time except power to the coil. Only thing I can think of is fitting a coil isolation push pull switch. Anybody think of a better idea?

Hi Norm. The white wire is NEG and the red wire POS. Depending on what polarity you have for your bikes earth then the other wire is switched to turn power on and off... I think you must have it wired up wrongly as there is no way the alternator output can get through to the ign unit and bypass the ignition switch if done correctly. No need to turn off power to coil seperately.

Les,
Wish I knew what I was doing wrong but now I have 3 of them doing this. On the 1A Inter last year when I set it up I tried fitting a relay to shut the ignition (turn the key off and shut the power to the realay then the coil) but even that backfed the relay from the alt and the motor kept running. The probale is caused by using the existing loom and I can't see how to get around it, trust me I have spent many many hours trying. The Meteor is now pos earth so I could use the Indian alt/rec/reg units and now for the first time it has a 12 volt battery that charges and lights we can use.Have to be happy about that

Hi Norm. I'm assuming you have the Pazon Surefire (Analog) systems? The wiring for them looks straight forward. What i can't understand is how the alternator output could bypass the ignition switch. The output from the alternator feed the rect/reg unit which feeds via the ammeter the battery. At the battery you then take the feed to the Pazon from the NEG terminal via the ignition switch. The red wire on the Pazon in effect goes to the batteries POSITIVE terminal via the earth (Hard wired to the Positive terminal is preferred)Try hard wiring the ignition units without using the original wiring. What could be wrong is that the original wiring and switch arrangements had an emergency ignition switch position. This wired all 3 sets of coils together for maximum output and fed this directly to the coil /points so you could start without a battery. I reckon the wiring on the ignition switches has been connected wrongly so when you switch off you are switching the emergency start position through to the Pazon. As just described, if the ignition switch wiring is mixed up you will then connect up the alternator to power the Pazon when switching off.....To get over the problem, check and adjust the switch wiring or remove the links on the switch that connect up the alternator....you don't need these anyway.....I suppose you have this wiring diagram for the Pazon?: http://www.britcycle.com/Manuals/337PA2inst.pdf

Hi Norm...my last reply was written as I was thinking on my feet so to speak. So where I was saying I could not understand how the the alternator fed the Pazon...it occured to me later as I typed what the cause might be if you are using the existing wiring loom and ignition switch. It is somewhat odd that all 3 bikes have the same trouble buit it is not impossible that all 3 have the same incorrectly wired ignition switch...especially if done by the same person. So if the wiring at the switch is correct and can't be changed (It can !) then just run the ignition wiring seperately to another ignition switch. Any chance of including a link of your existing wiring diagram?..it might be easy to remove some connections.

Thanks Les, but short of a complete rewire I can't see how to isolate it. I think it is a switch problem as they are only an on/off switch which is factory so at this stage I have fitted an indicator light to tell me we have power at the coil and a switch to shut the power to the coil.
