Hi Norm, no I dont think I am gifted, but all my bikes are set up correctly, are started and stopped with the correct procedure and plenty of ATF in the chaincase Im not saying that they one of the best designs but if looked after they will last. Get the ignition timing and carberation right to start with, to many owners do not have the experience to do this or know how to start a 50s big single the right way. I learnt the hard way, on Velocettes. Again you only hear of the ones that have had problems and not from the many more who do not.

Johnny,
You only have to make one mistake and stall it at traffic lights, and we have all done, that and it can go bang in a big way, only takes one and it can all be over

The replacement green TCI unit completely eliminated the kick back which regularly affected my sprag - banging and clanging. It finally let go when a HT problem made it difficult to start and the battery got low.
New sprag, new battery and green TCI and rerouted HT lead - since then no kick backs, no clangs and no problems.
These are the basics in my book. The green TCI was F.O.C from Watsonian Squire and I encourage all Electra owners to get one - NOW!!!

The so-called stronger sprag seen on Ebay is unlikely to provide a solution. Electric-start Norton Commandos (the old ones!) use a sprag bearing, which fails if a Boyer is used (low voltage problem - sound familiar?) A major supplier of Norton parts sells an uprated sprag, which actually has MORE segments. I think that the logic is that it provides a larger contact area on the shaft when it takes up the drive. It seems to me that a replacement sprag for the Enfield which has FEWER segments is more likely to fail.
