Thanks, Edward! Sounds like a simple and cheap method for getting a "sand cast" finish. I will try that on some scrap parts. Maybe followed by some scotch brite or steel wool it will give a finish like I want it. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Sand blasting for primitive ultra rough , bead blasting for the works motor look and vapor blasting for the shiny custom , all need sealing against acid rain etc , a petrol wash can do it but ulra high temp laq is vey tricky to get right , I would go for a thin coat rather than the Jap 70's look that cracks and chips giving ugly results .

The way I've done this is to shot blast with old media (Lost some of the sharpness)and then wash in the dish washer. I then run over the aluminium with a copper brush as used to clean SA80 rifles with some light oil and then wipe dry. it comes up with a even, clean but not ultra shiny finish.
