my '55' 700 meteor rebuild is a new area to me, as a previous owner of other classics ive never really taken too much of an interest in enfields! my question is i have been told when lookin for spares some engine and cycle parts are inter-changeable and compatable off the super meteor,constellation and interceptor is that correct???

Some parts are the same but many are not and great care needs to be taken, most correct parts are available if you look for them. ----- All the best with the rebuild, they are a very good bike you should enjoy it.

Kev, the simple answer is not very much at all. The 1955/6 model year saw a big redesign for nearly all Enfield models and crucially the engines and frames were completely altered. There are a few bits and bobs that will swap but not much. However most parts are available, even if it requires a bit of patience! What do you intend to do? I have a 1953 Meteor, a 1959 Connie and a 1966 Interceptor so have some experience of these Twins.

mark not quite sure where im really going yet with the rebuild probably not entirely std ,bot im going to try and stick to the original lines as much as i can .not quite sure how this site works yet either on chat lols

there is one question that comes to mind i read in classic bike its advisable to upgrade meteor oil pump drive with a super meteors ??? what s your opinion and also do you think it would be advisable to fit an oil cooler as the it gets very hot here............in spain

It's fine. The Meteor does get hot but you'll be ok with modern multigrade oils. A cooler won't help, and it's a sod to plumb into the early Twins.

I think there is an article going in the next Enfield on line mag about how to give it good charging and ignition, but don't ask how it was done. BTW Mark it is running very well now and has done a few reasonable trips recently with only an oil leak which I think is coming from between the barrels so I have to live with that for the moment

thanks mark ,a mate of mine in Lincoln [home town] advised me that as long as i used correct gearbox oil and kept on top of the filtration system i should be ok but he did say the neutral selector if worn have a tendency to play up ,and can cause the gearbox to jump out of gear! sounds a little precarious io say the least! REgards kev gettin the hang of this now 1001 questions ! lol

Hmm. I think your friend may not know as much about Enfields as he thinks he does! I've never heard of or experienced the neutral selector giving gearchange problems, it just doesn't work like that! Likewise, there's nothing wrong with the filtration system, unlike most British bikes of the era which don't have one at all! Finally, you have to use the correct gearbox oil in anything, car, helicopter, whatever! Stick with us kid, we'll see you right...
