Hi CHRIS -------------- I'm in a similar situation re}--- "Which way to swing ??" ----------- hang on, no that's NOT what I meant at all !! LoL !! Referring to the choice of rod/bottom end, I'm in a similar situation with my No.1 Bullet. Reading other forums and contributors I think the answer lies in the TYPE of work you intend the bike to do weighed against your fiscal limits ???--------Racing OR regular fast, motorway or similar, then the "full monty" ( ie steel rod with rollers, high-flow oil pumps, etc.) is called for-- especially in terms of reliability. In this case you can forget about any money restraints, I would say. Normal "club" use with the odd spirited visit to 70 mph ??, OK then a steel rod with floating bush will suffice. Bog-Standard build with commuting/touring in mind ??---then the original alloy rod /floating bush combo. will suffice.... I'm opting for the steel rod/floating bush scenario with a Hitchcocks forged piston on top. I've been running that piston for the last 3,250 miles and it seems ok to me.( also had a de-compression plate in to give an approx 7:1 CR but will revert back to standard 8:1 for next year)....an Amal 30mm Mk1 Concentric breathing through a paper air filter with a semi-restrictive exhaust completes the set-up.
