Barrel now off, the silicone bandit has been at work again, this one gave in much more easily than the head though.
All looks good otherwise, will fill in more detail tomorrow.

Current status, barrel and head off, checked over along with piston, all looks good, not as much carbon as first thought, (24,000km on the clock), rings in piston quite free and only the typical wear you see o a piston and bore.
Having failed to find the Helicoil owner I used last time, i've ordered a kit from good ol online auction bay, am awaiting that arriving so I can sort the plug thread.
Using the highly technical 'bright light in the head' test I can see light seepage on the rear edge of the inlet valve, exhaust looks OK but they'll both be lapped in again for good measure anyway.
A cursory inspection the mating surfaces of the head and barrel shows a gap of about 0.5mm and with a head gasket of 1.0mm I should be good for resealing, i'll be checking the head on a sheet of glass to see it's flat enough also before refitting.
Really looking forward to getting it back together so I can sort the spark prob and get it running and to the MOT station.

Helicoil kit arrived, will be attacking that a little later.
Small order in with our hosts for the basic necessities then quick clean and polish of the head, lap the valves and rebuild, try and figure out the spark prob.
