steveg is only asking for a cruising speed of 60-65 - no need to rush of and buy a triumph for that as surely the new efi models are capable of handling that. Can some efi owner please confirm that as its the only reason i would change my iron barrel for a new model.

I have an old 350 and it will cruise all day at 60mph. However, it won't do much more than that (maybe 70mph on a flat road) and my weight is an average 12 stone.
It is quite capable for commuting and keeps up with traffic. Having said that it would not be my first choice for getting to work and coping with traffic jams, filtering and half asleep car drivers.
Mad Mike maybe right in suggesting a Triumph but better value can be had if you are not fussy about it being a retro looking modern bike. If your budget is 2K it would probably not buy you a used Triumph, it would buy you a neat CB500 which frankly is the ideal tool for the job.
In fact, 1K would get you a CB500 with 1K leftover to buy an old Enfield for a leisure/hobby bike.

Cheers
Paul.

I have a 2009 Bullet Electra EFI DL with 5k miles, bought last year with 2k miles on for half new price. Cruises at 70/75 no problem, just done a 1000 miles trip to North Wales and did 100 mpg. I can keep up with my mates Hinckley Bonneville and am considering getting rid of my Harley sportster as the EFi does all I need. I sold my Electra X DL after the horror stories of rebuilds and my friends problems with sprags etc. although my bike was fine and never missed a beat to 6k miles. The EFi can cruise around 5-10 mph faster than the electra x and around 5-10 mpg better too. The Efi has Avon Speedmaster tyres on which I was weary off at first but they are fine. In general running I get 80 mpg from the EFi.
I would definately recommend an EFI, especially a good second hand one. Hope this helps.

I agree with 'Louth Enfield' about EFI cruising speed. My 10,000 mile EFI Woodsman easily handled a motorway trip of over 300 miles, sitting at an indicated 70 without any problems. My own personal cruising speed is 60-65 and it will do this with ease. The fuel consumption figures are correct as well, mine does 85 -90 on my daily commute and 90 - 95 on a run, however, these figures drop by about 10 m.p.g. in the winter. For the first year of ownership, the EFI shared my garage with my W650 Kawasaki on which I had covered 30,000 miles. However, I sold the W as I just wasn't riding it - the Enfield was the first choice every time due to the fun factor! I've never regretted the decision and the EFI continues to make me smile every time I ride it, even on a 100 mile trip this week in foul weather. They're not perfect, but they are just so much fun on every ride, no matter how long. My advice would be to ride a properly run in EFI and you'll soon know if it is the bike for you.
