Well I've had my Electra x since last october,i'd moved to Spain the year before and thought that an Enfield would be ideal to pop around on, you know, down the bar, beach etc, and really i guess it has down that really well, what with the heat and all. But i've had an annoying rattle. I'm mechanic by trade so set about trying to find it, The bike has a tappet rattle which only appears when it's hot.(not looked at that yet as this other rattle sounded a lot more serious)Anyway i've found it, would you believe it is the filler cap rattling/vibrating on the tank. I only found it by accident when i'd filled it up to the top and it leaked fuel when i was going along. My question is is this common and what can i do about it as nothing seems worn, everthing is tight, it's just a bad fit.

Gaz, It was a fairly commomn problem, the fix was to put a nitrile type "O"ring behind the existing washer from memory. I haven't heard about this problem for some years so the fix must work. I changed my tank for an earlier one and that fixed my problem

Hi Gaz, the petrol tank cap issue has come up on here a few times - they do seem to leak, some of them. On mine I cured it completely by cutting a 'washer' , about the same size as the caps rubber one, from a bit of leather.
Sorted! Alternatively, our hosts offer a kit to convert the flip up cap to a large polished aluminium bayonet type.
Let us know how you get on!

Thanks for that gents,i've not posted until now,as i always managed to find the answer to a few things on here that i needed, but didn't see anything about this. i will let you know what happens. I also must say i have found that our host offer and excellent service, and have sent stuff to me here in real good time considering the state of the spanish postal service. Thanks again, Gaz
