Hi, all!

A week ago I replaced the float and float needle in my Concentric Mk I with new parts, when I already had the float bowl off for cleaning. Haven't done that for years, so I figured it might be an idea to check, at least. It turned out there was no need for cleaning anyway, everything was almost clean as new. But, since I already had bought the new parts, I put them in. Original Amal parts, identical and same part numbers as the ones I removed. The filter was clean too, and the petrol flow has never been a problem. I removed and blew through the jets with compressed air too, but as I could see with my bare eyes, the main jet and needle jet were completely fine before that. But now to the question:...............................................................................................

Earlier, i.e. before I changed these two parts, it took a lo-o-o-ng time to flood the carb with the tickler. I had to press the tickler for 20 seconds or more before I could see any petrol coming. And trying to cold start without flooding was no point................................................................................................

Now it takes only 3-4 seconds to flood the carb. That's obviously a good thing, bit I can't figure out what made this difference! And that's a bad thing! ...............................................................................................

As said: The old float was completely OK, no leak, no damage. The float needle just the same, did it's job, did not leak. Petrol flow was not a problem. The carb was just as clean before as after the change. The bike started OK and ran well with a steady tickover, no changes to those facts. So what made the difference? ...............................................................................................

Is the tolerance between the float needle and the hole it sits in so narrow that it can stick just a little, but not enough to restrict the flow too much for running, just slowing down flooding?..............................................................................................

Not a very urgent or important matter, I know, but it is always annoying me not finding the reason for a fix or an improvement. ...............................................................................................

Anders,
I can't answer your question except that there must be a miniscule difference in the floats. I had exactly tha same problems with my new concentric from day one, I had a permanent dint in my finger from that bloody tickler. In frustration I extended the end of the tickler about 1mm and it fixed the problem. 40,000ks later still working fine
