Hello all,

Problem today with my 1959 250cc Clipper, went to start it & after two or three goes the bloody kickstart fell OFF!

Snapped clean off right at the end off the spline were the kickstart fits, broken part still in the kickstart.

Any ideas lads for an effective repair or a spare lying around you can sell!! because this is an old part, our host's can't supply this only a modified part, which costs £24.00 then you have to obtain a new kickstart pedal at £50.00 add the post & package + Vat and not much change out of £100.00!

Any good welders out there!

Cheers.

This happened to my WDCO about a year ago. I don't understand why you need a new kickstart. It should be just a matter of replacing the bit in the gearbox. Maybe a couple of hours work max.

Alan,
Wish I was a bit closer to you with that oxy. Last Friday I had to weld up 8 Enfield petrol tanks and borrowing oxy is such a pain out here when you only need it for a couple of hours and when you mention that you want to weld up petrol tanks it puts the fear of god into whoever you want to borrow it from

Thanks Lads,

Once more your help was great,

As it happens our hosts say this problem was identifield by Royal Enfield back in the sixties and they redesigned the kickstart shaft.

So I will go for the new shaft & get my kickstart re-splinned to suit hopefully.

Thanks AlanR for your welding offer, I live up in geordie land kidda.

Cheers one & all.

Howzie, your kickstart is the early half inch type, Enfield increased this to three quarter inch later on because of this problem. If it didn't break the splines eventually stripped. I'm surprised yours lasted as long as it did! At least the later part is a direct fit. Good luck with it!
