Interesting having a look in the new engine. I can help feeling that the next step is a four valve head. What I couldn't work out the purpose of was the little centrifugal arm on the inlet cam pinion. Good post. :)

Thanks SIMON---I'm looking for part 2 but can't find it yet. That was the Exhaust cam and the automatic de-compressor unit which had failed, being shown by the Spanish mechanic in the video.Looks like part of the mechanism had dropped down and jammed into the inner race on the crank R/H main bearing . Apparently a "factory-fault" engine----that's why the interior is so clean. I'm not keen on that plastic wheel-----designers normally use it as a "sacrificial" material in transmissions etc. Probably just for cheapness here though. I still prefer the iron unit.

Totally agree, all those cogs wiring around in the products of combustion it aint natural! I assume the plastic cog was the oil pump drive which is at least under a consistent sort of load. I've got an Alfa 166 which has plastic cogs everywhere and they do fail for a pastime. Built for a price though and I suppose its always a bold call to go for the first of a marque.
