Hi again. Why not give Hitchcocks a ring and simply ask them about the blanking nut for the 350? They're VERY helpful people and will really do their best to advise. Regarding the PAV system, as I said it does nothing other than admit fresh air into the exhaust tract in order to 'improve' the emmissions. In reality it is simply there to allow the old engine get through emissions tests, by 'watering down' the pollution. Best got rid of - less to go wrong, and saves weight into the bargain.

Hi all-------------just to add support for our Mr RIGGERS there and I've just seen on another Enfield based site that the Pulse Air Valve was}-------------- a SOLUTION to POLLUTION by DILUTION !!

Bit of a coincidence this one!!

Further to Riggers comment, the exhuast blanking nut from our hosts DOES fit the 350. I know because I removed the PAV from my own 2008 350 Classic last year and fitted one myself.

In addition to removing the PAV, I took off the hideous long restricted silencer which was supplied with the bike from new and replaced it with our hosts short Universal silencer. Although I don't mind "loud" pipes I must admit I found it a bit TOO loud and yesterday visited Hitchcocks and bought the Indian silencer to relpace it. I also bought the Indian down-pipe as it is allegedly less-restricted than the standard version, as supplied with the bike originally.

Unfortunately my impulses got the better of me and I also bought the Amal 26mm carb kit to replace the standard Mikcarb. I wont't get the chance to fit these until week after next, but when I do, I'll let you know how I get on.

Durham Tim if you previously had the 'short' silencer to work with the original longer exhaust what happenned to the silencer. Did you exchange it (note that I can find 'used' silencers on the 'host' site - although other used stuff...)? M

I've kept the old (original) silencer. I'll also keep the Universal silencer when I take it off next week.

I'm not entirely sure where your question's coming from, but our hosts generally don't take used kit in part-ex!
(Understandably, so!). Their main business is selling new parts and I suppose the forum is just an add-on service....

Durham Tim I saw the 'Used Parts and Bikes' tab and had assumed you may have 'swapped' the shorter silencer you had for a later/different one hence wondering if that was going to be offered for (re)sale, which might have provided an opportunity for me to 'experiment' with the change to see if it suited me and my bike (and the neighbours - for those early morning starts!).
Will be interested to hear how your bike goes after you have swapped over.

Hi

I've gone the usual route - replaced the original exhaust system with our hosts shorter one. I've fitted a Monobloc carb and conical air filter and a five speed right shift 'box along with a 1 tooth increase in gearbox sprocket size. The bike is so much more usable and pulls the higher gearing fine. The yawning chasm between 3rd and fourth has gone. The carburation is so much better - clean with none of the snuffles and sneezes I got with the standard setup especially on a trailing throttle.

However I find the exhaust a little too loud (even with the supplied baffle) and am going to investigate quieter alternatives. Has anyone suggestions? Preferably without losing all the performance gains?

cheers

John
