Hi All, hopefully those of you with more technical knowledge than me can help...
2004 4 speed kickstart Indian Bullet.
Last couple of rides have ended up with goo (grease from gearbox I think) running down the primary drive side centre stand leg...
Engine oil ok , primary drive oil ok - hence my supposition it's gearbox grease. I wont be using the bike again until I find out what it is for sure .

1) Do you its the seal where primary drive goes into gearbox?
2) I think the parts are cheap enough but how difficult/costly a repair is it ?

thanks for any help or advice

regards

Roger

i have a 2004 gearbox and it has always leaked from oil seal on main shaft behind final drive sprocket,to fit this seal you need to remove the primary drive clutch etc, gearbox sprocket its a few hours work, our hosts sell the seal,i left mine as it oils the final drive chain ,and as my gearbox has sealed bearings i just check the oil regular,i will replace this seal next time i have the primary off my diesel but will have to start oiling the chain then , all the best paul.

Paul,
I think the oil seal is pretty much redundant when sealed bearings are fitted, I think it just helps keep gunk away from the bearing, I wonder if your leak might be coming from the felt seal or lack of felt seal in the gearbox sprocket nut allowing oil to pass down between the mainshaft and the mainshaft sleve.

sorry norm your correct although my seal leaked before sealed bearings, there is no felt seal on the 2004 nut its an oilseal in the nut end instead, although it could be that leaking on the shaft i don,t find it a problem as i said it lubes the chain via the gearbox sprocket ,i use 20/50 in the gear box its cheap over here all the best paul.
