 Alan,

Regarding the barrel studs, bit exxy but worth it in the long run. Problem with this world is you have to pay for quality.

It's 06.00 and the Bosun's call is played over the Tannoy at Max. decibels }------- Peee-whip,  pee-wooo !!  Call the hands, call the hands.     Wakey, wakey----------rise & shine !! Off c----s, ON sox !! Into yer 8's-- don't be late !!! Duty watch turn to. Pee-whip, pee-woo !!!   5 mins. later, you get the same again.    There now, the RN's genteel way of inviting members of the crew to "please come and help run the ship.Thank you so much"       Back to Enfields shall we ??  If you are using one of Mr H's composite head gaskets then you won't need to use gasket sealant as well. I've just done my 500 this winter and all is well.  Head re-build is fairly much a reversal of the strip. Make sure the valves are nicely ground-in and washed free of any grinding paste. TIP }---When replacing those little devils the spring collets, a smudge of grease on each will help stop them escaping as you slowly release the spring compressor.  Then, with a heavy copper hammer, give the valve stem a few sharp hits to "bounce" the valve. This helps the assembly to settle-in.   Don't forget the de-compressor would benefit from a little TLC as well.  Crack-on, Mcduff !!     PS }---- Fleet Air Arm, the Navy's way of showing the Brylcreem-Boys how it should be done !( Cheeky !)

Hi All

Well the bike is all back together now - no problem and started after about 3rd or 4th kick.

I am going to try Pete Snidel's dynamic timing adjustments to make sure the bike is running correctly - Any tips?

Also does anyone have any ideas of why the head gasket blew after only 600kms.

Cheers Now.

Reasons for head gasket failure - Incorrectly torqued on previous assembly? Head warped from day 1? Failure to re-torque after bedding-in? Faulty head gasket? (unlikely if solid copper.)
