hi all can anybody tell me what the gap should be on a BR8EIX IRIDIUM plug as i got new one and gaped it at 0.5mm
before reading in hitchcocks book that you should not change the gap. so any help or is it buy another plug?

You bent it once, so maybe you can bend it again. Once broken, you can buy another, recalling the old adage, "if all else fails, read the instructions". I found the plug lasted very well, 8,000km without any gap change. Hard luck. Cheers

According to NGK data sheet, a Bullet 500 uses a standard plug and they give the gap as 0.028" = .711mm; so I guess you closed the gap?

I think they tell you not to regap them because the central electrode is quite fragile.
If you've been careful it should be OK. Just reset it and it will be OK........or not

The gap is set in the factory for iridium plugs. As they say in the classics, 'If all else fails, read the instructions on the packet.'

Hi MORGY ----here's my 10p worth. 1mm is normally rounded to be 0.040" therfore your setting at 0.5mm = 0.020" ie twenty thou. So I would say----leave it as you now have it. Incidentally, normally it's only the centre electrode that is made from Irridium---it's small size (0.6 for NGK plugs, and 0.4mm for Denso) giving the much lower voltage required to obtain a spark "Jump". When I was racing Grass-Trackers back in the 1970's we used to file the plug outer electrode to a point for exactly the same reason. Plug was ditched after each meeting. Using Methanol fuel meant lower average temps. in the combustion chamber but MUCH higher MeP's (pressures), and it's those pressures that the spark has to overcome. Question is }---are they really worth the money for our "cooking" engines ??

NGK BR8EIX IRIDIUM plug as supplied is 0.030" or 0.762 in that funny napoleonic measuring system.

To comment on Alan R question - are they really worth the money for our "cooking" engines ??
Been using one in the infamous Bullet 500 for some 1000s of mile now, it has outlived many standard NGK plugs and gives me a rock steady slow tickover.
