I can't stop it leaking, been struggling with this problem for a couple of years now, had it off so many times I just have to whistle and it jumps off. Done the paper on glass trick, all looks loverly and flat, gasket sealer both sides of the gasket,but to no avail. I have looked for fine cracks,nothing visible but this just leaks from cold without the motor even being warmed up. Put it together, newspaper under it, come out next morning and a puddle under it.

What sort of engine breather valve has it got and is it working? A reasonable engine vacuum will solve a lot of leaks.

Crank pressure I don't think is an issue as it hasn't been started since September and we have looked and looked at the faces and can't see the slightest problem. Fit the timing cover, pour some oil in through the exhaust valve cap and it just drips out around the inside of the filter. Looking up under there with a torch and mirror it is leaking directly down in line from the quill bolt, running around the filter part of the cover and then running along the underside of the filter and dripping from the filter gasket. Got me stumped

Must be a hairline crack somewhere,likely around a stress point. I doubt you will see it unless you use a penetrating dye.
If you locate it, I know a few who have successfully repaired aluminium faults using the Laser 4707 aluminium repair system, have a google.

Hello NORM---- my turn to help you I hope. Whilst in the MoD Engineering dept. repairing the duralumin-bodied APC's we used ROCOL 63151 Flaw Detector. Have a look on their web site as you'll need the de-greaser as well. It has a light maroon colour when in use and definitely works. I can say that from first hand experience. I don't know the Interceptor that well mechanically but it might be our old friend POROSITY ?? When was the last time the casings were stripped and re-painted internally ?? Bloody costly that paint but again, through actual hands-on work---worth the money. After all, how old is the engine now ?? Have a G'day, matey----as I write this it's Easter Monday Hols--- pouring with rain (for the second day), so me and "Betty-the -Bullet" are going nowhere FAST !!!

I can't find it, only option now is to pull the timing cover off the other Inter and swap them and see where to from there
