Hi, recently fitted the 23w bulb upgrade kit to my 500 65, great at tick over, but any revs and the blinkers blink really quickly. The only thind I did not change was the pilot bulb, the supplied was a 4w, and mine being 2w in the smaller warning light did not fit, so I have wired in another 2w bulb, but to now avail. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Try a 10 watt in one and leave the 23 in the other. These are a bimetal flasher and with 46 watts going through it and it heats up too fast

Therein lies the problem, i believe it should be rated at 23 watts. Is it the one sent with the kit? 46 watts maybe rated for machines with hazzard warning facility, ie all four flashing at once. check with supplier. regards gwilly.

I would also check the earthing, some indicators have only one wire and rely on the body for the return path.

A clue might be in the problem when the engine is producing more electrical power, it shouldn't make any difference to the flash rate.

Forgot to add, Halfrauds sell the brighter pilot bulbs if our host can't oblige.

Hi guys------ just a bit of useful info }------------ if your vehicle is Post 1986 it must have flashers fitted as standard. The required rate for MoT is 60 to 120 per min. An "average" healthy adult has a typical---at rest----rate of 60 to 80 heart beats per min. So now you can do your own flasher rate MoT pre-check. Marvellous !!

I think I will revert back to the standard set up and see if it settles down, then take it from there, if its the same then will check earths, then check  and clean the contacts in the indicator housings. Could just be a duff 46w flasher unit? I have a car one knocking about rated at 2 x 21 + 5w, so in theory with 23w x 2 bulbs and a 2watt pilot should be a correct flash rate give or take the 1w.
