Hi steve-----It's like being married really, you do something "right" and something else is bound to be wrong---know what I mean ?? If you go into a £shop , or in B&Q etc you can usually find one of these small torches. I've adapted one to take a small 12v bulb (speedo etc) and fitted it with abuot 3 ft of LT cable and crocodile clips . Makes a great test lamp and search-light.

Best bet is you disturbed a connector inside the casquette. Take it no ammeter deflection but is any other electrics affected? Check they are all tightly plugged toether.

 Alan,

Test light with a clip is sort of ok, but the point in using a propper test light is that you can push the spike into a wire to see if power is there without disconecting the connectors

Hi Norm---yep, spot-on matey !! In my DIY kit in the handle of the torch are some of those thin pins 'er indoors has on a magnet in the sewing machine. ideal for adjusting car screen washer jets and poking into wires etc.

And Alan, if you have a good enough globe in your test light it can  be used as a work light as well when you are broken down on the side of the road on a dark and wet night. it could be called a test and see light then
