Hi, just wondering if any one has fitted the replacement rectifier from our host, my bike is now almost finished apart from this rectifier problem does any one know which way round the wires fit? the harness was also from Hitchcocks , part no 1029 its just that the two wires that are together that come out of the loom i am not sure about,?  i must say that i  am not to conversant with electrics any help would be most helpful.

Nellie, what is it you want to know? I have the wiring diagram here, and I THINK what you're asking is where the 2 double wires go, these would be white/green and green/black. If so, they go to the AC (alternating current) connectors on the rectifier, usually marked with a wavy line or letters AC. If you're not sure, stop until you have identified them properly, rectifier destruction could be the consequence of getting it wrong! Hello, Mark,it,s all a bit complicated this, just need to find the earth and live on the alternator there is two wires that are joined with a spade connector, that come from the harness, where do they go on the rectifier and where do the remaing wires go its just that the rectifier is different.

A difficult question to answer without more information,


Is the bike 12v or 6v?, 


Was it like this when you got it?.


What type of regulator are you using if on 12v?.


The alternator does not have an earth or a live it gives out alternating current, thats why its called an alternator.


Usually the alternator has three wires green, green/white, and green/black, when using on 12v the green and the green/black are connected together this is connected to one ac input on the rectifier or rectifier/regulator and the green is connected to the other ac input, the positive output from the rectifier or rectifier/regulator would connect to earth and the negative output would feed through the ammeter to the battery negative.


If it is 12v you must either use a combined rectifier/ regulator or a rectifier and zenner diode to regulate the output.

There is no earth as such on the alternator. The 3 (should be 3,) wires from the alternator connect to the main harness colour to colour. Have you got that far? The harness then links to the rectifier underneath the toolbox (from memory.) At this point you will probably have 3 wires with female spades on, and one with a ring terminal, this is the "earth" and should go under the fixing bolt for the rectifier. The 2 wires I previously described (w/g and g/b,) go onto the top and bottom spade connectors. The remaining wire (brown/white I think,) goes to the middle spade. All this is on the original plate type Lucas rectifier or the modern copy of it. Is that what you've got? You say the rec is different, different to what? The original? If it is a modern electronic thing like a square with a spade at each corner, can you describe what's marked on it please as it's difficult to answer without all the info.

Mark, yes it is the replacement about 1inch square with 4 spade fixings, hole in the centre, alternator plus and minus on rear i do have an original lucas that came with the box of bits!! not sure of the condition though, the cables that come from the alternator a bit discoloured through oil i presume !! it is a problem to get it right.

 I find the pos and neg bit interesting because when I fitted the  Boyer powerbox to my Inter I checked with our hosts as to which way to wire it for positive earth. Their reply was to swap the wires for pos earth. Not totally convinced I contacted Boyer and their reply was regardless of pos or neg earth the red wire to battery positive and black to neg. Not sure if this will help to confuse the issue but might help

Hello,Chevvy, thanks for the info, the only problem that i seem to have is that there seems to be two wires joined together i think they may well be brown /green tracer ???? they are all new wires on a new loom.THANKS TO EVERY ONE FOR THERE INFOMATION.
