Hi Allan R and others

I saw some comments about youre engine configuration in a post in a previous thread about topspeed, and it has got me thinking.

My configuration is:
500 Bullet
Micarb
Forged piston
Electronic ignition

Until a few days ago I ran a Bellmouth, with a freeflowing silencer but the original downpipe.
With a richer slide, a richer needlejet, a 30 pilot and a 130 main jet and the needle in the bottom groove (richest setting), it went really well (and fast - I have been very close to the ton (actual speed)).
However I got tired of it drinking water when it rained, so I changed to a teacaddy but installed a proper freeflowing pipe also.
It seems now, that I can only run a 120 main, and have had to drop the needle one notch.

In your post as mentioned above, you say, that you run a 130 main, with pretty much the same setup as mine (only with sligtly lower compression). How can that be?

Is my teacaddy more restrictive than yours or are you running rich but not fouling the plug because the denso plug can handle it?

Sorry for the long post and the bad english

Hi Danish Dan. I know your question is for Alan R, so I'm sorry to butt in, but in my opinion every Enfield seems have a mind of its own when it comes to jetting. I'm using an S&B air filter and a 'Burgess' type silencer and my bike needed a 150 main jet (manually drilled 1.5mm)! I think you just have to experiment and go with what's best. By the way don't apologise for your English - it's better than most of ours on here!

Hi Riggers. Every input is very welcome, I just called Allan, because it seems he's got a similar setup to mine. I tried the S&B filter as well, but couldn´t get the fueling rigth. The bellmouth seemed to make the micarb better at sucking up fuel (I think of it, as the trumpet mainstreeming the airflow a bit). Thanks for your response.

----TA-DA!!!... Tiz I, he of the Dipstick persuasion !!----RIGGERS, since using your suggested settings I now return from a ride with severe JET LAG !!....hence my absence for a wee while. DANISH DAN }--- I have to give my carb a service soon so can take the opportunity to just re-check the settings etc. I'll get back to you ASAP.---------- just a thought but you can get bellmouths with a brass gauze over the inlet to help keep water out.
