Don't feel down about it Wolf - we all have to learn - and an Enfield is a great bike to learn on!


Trouble with a misfire is it could be just about anything. Could be the spark plug, points (if you've got some), ignition coil, HT lead, battery connections, earth connection, etc etc. Then again it could be the carb, too weak, too rich, mucky petrol, blockage, etc etc.


The dealer won't be clever when he sorts your bike - with shelves full of spares he's just got one hell of a head start!

hi guys bike still in dealers, has been serviced but still not running without spluttering and slight backfire, dealer says carb rubbers need replacing and just waiting for them to arrive. ignition switch started to play up as i rode the bike to the shop, thats been fixed too. looking forward to getting her back. wolf.

update re my bikes running problems, bikes been in the shop for a week now, and all because there still waiting for parts from W/S, wish they dealt with our hosts i would have been back on the road by now. wolf.

hi guys im back on the road again, heres what was wrong with my bike, faulty ignition switch, carb had come away from the airbox, perished carb rubbers and leak at intake manifold, valves had no clearance. theres a couple of problems but on reflection i should with a bit of patience have been able to sort them out myself. i got hit with a BIG bill so next time im sitting with my manual and my coffee and gonna with the help of you guys, do it myself. thanks for all your replies guys. wolf.

    Glad to hear it's fixed and we tyried our best to help, but unlike us where we don't just replace everything we try and find the problem one piece at a time and sometimes this becomes a slow way of solving things, particlarly when there is more than one component failing and Enfields are good at that

Hi Wolf ------ One of those repaired items caught my eye}--- tight tappet setting. Just a tad-of-tightness on the inlet valve can give a spit-back similar to a weak mixture at times. Now then, don't ask me how I know but let's just say that even after 40 years of setting tappets it's still possible to get it wrong ( well---not quite right is more accurate !!). And after that hefty bill I'm not surprised you're a HOWwwwwwllliinng Wolf !!   But stay with us and we'll help keep those repair bills down. I read somewhere on here that the coil resistance should be 3.5 ohms; of course this is of no use to you if you don`t have a multi meter.
