It depends where in the world you were, Frank, and which model you bought. UK and Indian domestic market 4 speed bikes were right foot shift until the end of the classic model's production. The last UK 4 speed models were imported in 2007 and sold off over 2008/9, the last of the old 350s for the Indian market were built around 2010.
Export 4 speed bikes for the US and I think European market had a very clunky left-foot shift conversion introduced in 1994, according to Gordon May's book "Made in India" (Question for Leon and Tim, did Australian and NZ for-speeders go left-foot shift too?). The five speed gearbox versions of the classic and lean burn models came in about 2003 and were left-foot shift as standard unless converted to right-foot.
The EFI/UCE models first appeared in 2008 (2009 in the UK) and were left foot shift from the start, no right-foot shift conversions are available for these.
