The engine number will give the date.
Can you post the engine number on here?

looking at that sumpguard , it looks like it needs to be removed to do an oil change (1st service with dealer?) so why was it not spotted , or was it caused at the original/retail dealers

Although the bike is in France was it bought from a dealer in the UK?
[It looks - as far as can be told from the photo - that the sump plug hasn't been removed - there are no tell-tale signs of a spanner on it.]

hi all,

the dealer also did the 500 miles service,
and seemed very surprised when i rang this morning.
I know he wears glasses, but the repair is only an inch or two from the drain plug.

he said that the factory do strange things, especially with silver paint.

I rang Watsonian, and they confirmed the bike was sold to the dealer in March 2011,
and also added that the factory have been known to do things like that!? ?? !

I have sent an email with picture to Royal Enfield, Chennai, asking them about it
hopefully, I will get a reply soon!

The engine number is a little obscured, so here are two pics,

I think it says

U5S5E0AF006422

I fthe bike is unused and left the factory like this, then i might just keep it as it a hassle
to get back to the dealer in the UK, and I very attached to it,
I will wait to see if the factory replies.

The oil plug has been removed, judging from the silicone sealant that was around it!
the whole reason this came up is because i topped up the oil
but put too much in, and needed to take a little out!

RE's warranty is from date of first sale, so I think i will keep it for the moment.
If the engine stays good then fine, otherwise I can get it swapped under warrantee hopefully!
I will be surprised if the factory did "chewing gum" a new bike engine!

If the dealer saw this and didn't say or do anything about it they acted disgracefully.
If the importer saw this and then modified it to a Woodsman they acted disgracefully.
If it left the factory like this everyone in the supply chain acted disgracefully.
I'd love to know who the dealer was!

Is this a UCE EFI Bike? Reason I ask is the gearbox failures on the first bikes meant they had to be split and repaired before being sold. Though the sump drain plug looks brand new the case fasteners look well used. I'd get my money back.

Looks like filler of some sort like JB weld that's been stuck on to cure an Oil leak on the join rather than parting it and doing the job properly only way of telling for sure is when its removed next time its rebuilt.
