Hi Tim, I suppose you could describe Ural carbs as 'basic', to say the least! When these machines were new and needed running in, there would be a nail like thing protruding downwards from the carb top, to stop the 'slide' lifting more than about 1/3 of the way. Once run in, you snapped them off to enable the throttles to open fully, to make use of full 'power' and the manual also told you to remove the swarf from inside the rocker covers at the first service interval. Makes the Indian Enfields seem very refined! Regards, Paul.

The versions that turned up in NZ were supplied from new with: A spare set of piston rings, a gasket set, and a Once-around-the-block 'warranty'.

Half the price of a new 650 Trihard or Bezza, and quite popular with the Hippies...

Wayne,

the larger Mikunis are also fitted to some Manx Nortons these days, I saw one at Donnington the other weekend and fitted with what must have been a VM40, ticking over on its paddock stand quite happily. Not something you expect to see on a race bike, though B.W.'s party piece of making Amal GP carb -engined bikes tick over sweetly is even more disconcerting...

Thanks to all for the responses. After considering few options I decided to order mikuni 36mm flat slide. I been told flat slide is good for better bottom end performances.
Regards Jessie.

Jassie,

if jetted right this should be a good option, please remember to post a picture of the conversion here when it is finished!

Will do Adrian, I ordered the carb jetted as a gold star. Hope that puts me close to being tuned right out of the box.
