Hi all, after getting a few oil leaks on my Sixty5, I need to remove the distributor to replace the gasket and points oil seal.

I have the gear extractor, and will set engine at TDC. I will mark position of points plate and advance plate before removal.

I guess that the shaft will just pull out complete with advance unit once gear is removed?

Anything I should do / check, apart from timing, when assembling it all again?

First I have to repair some wiring under rear mudguard where tyre has rubbed through, due to loom not being clipped out of way properly. ( not by me! ).

the shaft is not keyed to the drive cog , mark the cams with a tippex , and mark the location of the points cam , and proceed. cant remember if some of the distributors have a circlip holding the shaft in , after removing the pulley and bolts , don't be tempted to tap the shaft to break the gasket joint , doing this will force the A/R into the dizzy back plate , so remove this first

Hi Allan, looking at the dist in parts list, there is a circlip holding shaft in on timing side. I guess if I can remove that I can pull shaft and a/r out as one, after removing points plate . My dist should have bearings, not bushes, so hoping it slides out.

I may have to remove idler gear to get extractor tool on dist pinion though. Will mark everything up before.

indeed , If you are not replacing the gasket between the dizzy and the case ,you can indeed remove the circlip , tap shaft out then replace the oil seal and replace , if you have an accumulation of oil getting thru , it might not be a bad time to change the ball bearings by ones with oil seals fitted , those tap out quite easily . if you go to bearingboys/simply bearings etc you can input the size and get new sealed brgs for a few quid.
