Hello all,
quick question about an oil leak I've noticed. It's only minor at the moment but better make a start. Basically on the bottom of the kickstart shaft I'm getting oil. This is obviously leaking from the gear box and out along the shaft. I've looked at the parts book on line and the only seal in the assembly seems to be an O Ring.

Has anybody explored in this area? Is it simply a question of stripping off the front cover and replacing an O Ring or am I missing something more substantial?

No, you need to take the gearbox inner cover off as well. You need to withdraw the shaft from inside. You might as well replace the K/S pawl while you're in there and a close ratio gear conversion is worth thinking about as well. There's a tech note explaining how to do the pawl on this site which covers the O ring as well.

And it is a special "O" ring the off the shelf "O"rings are too thick unless the case is really worn

Thanks a million lads,
I'll have to give this some thought before I attack it. I have the close ration gear conversion, as far as I know the previous owner did that bit of work. I'll read over the technical note thanks again for the pointer.
