My C5 had been off the road and needed a new sprag and battery so got it back at the weekend. However, I went to start it yesterday and it and nothing happened on pressing start button. Neuttral light would not come on after and no electrics worked. Put it back it the garage with frustration but had a look later. Checked the battery and it was all secure but decided to undo and tighten the connectors anyway. I put the key back in and lights back. Pressed the button and it started effortlessly then. Not sure what the issue could have been. Has anyone had anything similar at all?

Dan.

I would hazard a guess that one of the earth wires that go to the negative terminal on the battery is broken. Especially the small black one that fractures under the shrink wrap near the terminal.

I have lost count of the number of times I have stripped a non functioning device down to every component part found nothing wrong, put it back together and it functioned perfectly.

I find situations like this helpful when trying to invent new swear words.
I already had quite a vocabulary of them but my RE 350 Bullet Electra Indian home market version did cause me to add a few more for use when out on the road.
In my case it was the loss of compression every time I rode the bike more than about forty miles (valve seat recession). Another thing I noticed was that it's amazing how many people make a point of giving you advice how to kick start a Royal Enfield with little or no compression.
